Two 3 year old male gliders (brothers and sons of Molly and Dallas- my gliders) were brought in today by a family who realized that they weren't going to be able to spend enough time with their gliders anymore. This showed that the family cared enough about the animals that they wanted the best care for them, but the situation is still sad. The children in the family will miss the gliders and we know that the gliders will miss the family. Hopefully other people will learn something from this family's situation. BEFORE you buy gliders ask yourself if over the next 10- 15 years will you be able to give a glider between 2-4 hours of time a day. Sugar gliders are not very hard to care for. They need about 1/2 hour a day in cleaning cage pan and feed cups. Food (vegatables, fruit, and pellets or mealworms, and water daily, calcium and vitamins every 2-3 days. That kind of caring for them is easy. However, the time sugar gliders really need is LOVE TIME. In order to have a fantastic pet sugar glider YOU MUST SPEND BONDING TIME WITH THEM DAILY. They need food and clean cages but they also need time.
