Young Nic got one of his hind feet twisted up in loose string in the sleeping pouch and it severed his foot off. I played with him before cleaning cages in the morning and he was fine. When I put out food in the evening I played with him again and he was fine then too. However, when I went to play with my gliders later that night I noticed Nic wasn't moving around normally so I pulled him out to get a closer look and discoverd that one of his hind feet was gone. At first I thought maybe mom or dad had hurt him but that made no sense because his parents had never done anything like this before (Nic was their 8th litter). So I began checking out the cage to see if there was something that might have done this. Everything checked out and there wasn't any obvious reason for the mishap. Then I looked into the sleeping pouch and found that there were loose strings inside and by the looks of it this is where the accident had occured. I had heard about gliders getting caught in loose strings and dying because owners never checked to see if their gliders were actually coming out of their sleeping pouches. So I always check on my gliders after dark to make sure that everyone is out eating and playing. But I learned a hard lesson today not only should we check that gliders are out we also need to inspect their pouches for loose threads that they can get caught up in. Mom and Dad have already been tending to his injury and are even more protective of him now so he should be okay with them but I'll be keeping a very close eye on them just to be sure.

Two 3 year old male gliders (brothers and sons of Molly and Dallas- my gliders) were brought in today by a family who realized that they weren't going to be able to spend enough time with their gliders anymore. This showed that the family cared enough about the animals that they wanted the best care for them, but the situation is still sad. The children in the family will miss the gliders and we know that the gliders will miss the family. Hopefully other people will learn something from this family's situation. BEFORE you buy gliders ask yourself if over the next 10- 15 years will you be able to give a glider between 2-4 hours of time a day. Sugar gliders are not very hard to care for. They need about 1/2 hour a day in cleaning cage pan and feed cups. Food (vegatables, fruit, and pellets or mealworms, and water daily, calcium and vitamins every 2-3 days. That kind of caring for them is easy. However, the time sugar gliders really need is LOVE TIME. In order to have a fantastic pet sugar glider YOU MUST SPEND BONDING TIME WITH THEM DAILY. They need food and clean cages but they also need time.

We had a great Christmas. In fact Molly's joey Nic came O.O.P. on Christmas morning. We also have Mammy who has a large peanut showing. Honey has slight lumps (not quite peanuts yet). Kai and Yellow Lady also look puffy near their pouches. Looks like we've a few joeys on the way. Hope your Christmas was just as exciting.

We were recently invited to show our gliders at a grand opening for Pet Supplies Plus in Jacksonville, Illinois. We want to thank Mr. Hail for inviting us. We had a great time meeting people and showing off our gliders Dani, Angel, and Pip Squeak. There was a lot of interest when we showed off Frankie (male) who will be the first of our sugar gliders for sale at Pet Supplies Plus. He will be available beginning November 20th, 2008. About 1 week after that we'll send Bobby (male). Then Adrien (male) will show up in early December. So if you are looking to buy a sugar glider keep your eyes open for Hill Haven Sugar Gliders joeys that are for sale there just in time for Christmas!

We were recently in the MacMurray College Homecoming Parade. Truely another neat experience! We want to thank MacMurray College for letting us be in their parade. Not only was MacMurray a great college to attend (class of 2002) but they put on an organized parade. We plan on being in next year's parade too. Also a big THANKS to all our friends who came out to walk, drive, pass out flyers, and pass out candy. Without your help we could not have made such a fantasic showing.
